On March 20th 2009 the consumers and staff of Staten Island CSC and Sam Tocker Brooklyn CSC were more than excited to be part of the volunteer staff for the day at Habitat for Humanity. Lifespire Facility Director Joanna Yakan and Steve Green as well as staff member Marvin Alvarez and program participants Troy Crispino, Peter Bartolotti, Evelyn Prime and Keith Garrett assisted the Habitat for Humanity staff put the finishing touches on a apartment complex located on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. The work that was done included painting trim, cleaning/organizing the site and installing door hardware in four different units in the apartment complex. Staten Island consumers Troy Crispino and Peter Bartolotti both stated that they had never gone to a volunteer site like Habitat for Humanity and loved helping out. The Habitat for Humanity site coordinator stated that it was great having Lifespire volunteer and that the work that was done on March 20, 2009 gave the contractors more time to finish larger construction jobs. Lifespire has plans to volunteer with this organization on a more frequent basis due to the positive feedback from the consumers who are all eager to go.
