Sam Tocker CSC Fashion Show/Photo Exhibit
On April 17th and 18th, the Sam Tocker Comprehensive Service Center hosted a fashion show and photo exhibit. This function was planned, performed, and hosted by our consumers with limited help from the staff. What started out as just an idea turned out to be two exciting days filled with peer socialization and communication building, as well as an opportunity for outside visitors to share the experience.
The planning and preparation started in late January. Consumers were asked to volunteer their time and talents so that this would be something that everyone would remember. On a regular basis, our consumers went out into the community to find just the right outfits to display. In addition, those who participate in our photography classes set out to find just the right pictures to capture out in the community. The fashion show volunteers shopped all around from thrift stores to retail stores to find what they needed to represent the theme that they were looking for.
The consumers who are in the photography classes learn to take and develop pictures from beginning to end. From proper lighting, image capturing, and dark room developing, all work was done by our consumers while being carefully supervised by trained staff.
Various themes were represented during the fashion show. There was the 80’s theme, Disco era, Eveningwear, and finally the Bride and Groom scene. During each theme preparation and break, our consumer’s photographs were displayed in our photo gallery for all the visitors to admire.
After almost three months of preparation and hard work our Fashion show and photo exhibit turned out to be an enormous success. Family members and friends were invited as well as consumers and staff from other Lifespire facilities.
Never a dull moment at Sam Tocker!!!
