Habitat for Humanity

On June 26th 2009 Brooklyn CSC Sam Tocker Center went to their new found volunteer site for the second time, Habitat for Humanity. Facility Director Joanna Yakan and staff Damion Fearon escorted consumers Sean Hadgkiss and Carlos Kemper to the site. We arrived at the project site where we had worked on completing the painting of the trim and base boards for a 41 unit complex that is going to be ready for occupancy in the next two months.  Previously when volunteering at this site you could see all the work that still needed to be completed.  However,  this time you could almost see the project finished and you could see just how lucky the new owners would be in such a beautiful home. Consumer Carlos Kemper stated his favorite part of this volunteer site was, “the hard work, going out in the real world and putting your skills to use.”  Sean said, “he enjoyed the painting and knowing that his work would benefit someone else”. Both Sean and Carlos are excited to volunteer at this site on a regular basis. We are all looking forward to our next project with Habitat for Humanity in the upcoming months.
