PROGRAMS & SERVICES
Lifespire Behavior Management
Lifespire has operated a behavior management program in Queens since
1993. The program provides weekly instruction to parents of DD
individuals demonstrating problematic behaviors in the home environment.
An applied behavioral science specialist (ABSS) provides training. The
ABSS assesses the consumer's
behavior through both observation and parental report. A behavior plan
is then put into place. The ABSS then monitors the case
and reviews progress with the family, answering all questions along the
way. Referrals to the program come from both service coordinators and
parents themselves.
In 2004, the program had
become so well-known that Lifespire applied for and
obtained approval to double the size of the program. In 2007, Lifespire
applied for and obtained approval to open an in-home training program in
Manhattan. The Manhattan program was so
well-received that just one year after opening the State accepted our
proposal to double its size. That program now serves 50 individuals per
year. In 2011, the State approved our request to expand in Queens. The
Queens program is now operating at 3x its original size and will be
serving 80 individuals per year as of July 1st, 2011.
In addition to English, services are available in Spanish for Manhattan
residents and in Russian for Queens residents.
