Mother’s Day Celebration at Queens North
On Friday, May 9th, consumers at our Queens North Comprehensive Services Center had their annual Mother’s Day brunch. Consumers wanted to honor the women in their lives who are devoted to and care for them every day. They invited their moms, grandmothers, sisters, other family members and even as residential staff to the event. As the time of the brunch approached, participants waited in the reception area, eager to escort their invited guests to the cafeteria, which they had decorated earlier that week.
The program began with two consumers reading poems that were dedicated to ‘Mom’. They then handed a glass flower to their invited guests. Some of the guys and gals took the opportunity upon giving their presents to express their love and gratitude to the women in their lives. There were hugs, kisses, smiles and tears of joy all around. At the end of the program, everyone enjoyed a delightful brunch.
And what’s a Mother’s Day celebration without an opportunity to shop? Some of the Day Habilitation groups, in anticipation of the event, had been busy making gift baskets with soaps, bath salts and other items.
Amy Goldberg, the new director at Queens North, enjoyed meeting all the family members and was also pleased to see how everyone at the center worked hard to ensure that this event was a successful one! For more information on Queens North, please contact Amy at 718-721-5444.
